In this episode of Sisters-in-Law of Attraction, Sam and Christine continue the PIVOT series by diving into the “O”: Opportunity. Starting with a reframed look at “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door,” they explore the difference between forcing opportunities and allowing them through alignment, gratitude, and openness. Through real-life stories — from pickleball championships to a spontaneous concert that sparked this very podcast — they show how the smallest yes can open the biggest doors.
Highlights from this episode
Building a door is really just creating the space to be open to what the universe wants for me. It's not the doing of building that door. It is being the door.
It might not show up how you think it's going to show up. Your timeline isn't necessarily the universe's timeline. Just have the faith and know that if it's meant for you, it's not going to pass you by.
Opportunity begets opportunity. If you are out there saying yes to things, other opportunities are going to show themselves.
If you want something bad enough, the universe will conspire to deliver it. But you can't sit in the corner and be pissed at the entire world, because that is not going to get you anywhere.

Welcome back everyone to Sisters-in-Law of Attraction. I'm Sam.
Christine Goforth(00:05.416)
And I'm Christine.
Samantha Bauer(00:07.208)
And we're so excited you're back with us. We're making our way through our pivot method. We've talked about P is for purpose and I is to innovate slash create the life you want to live. And last time we talked about value, valuing yourself. And you wouldn't be here if you didn't value yourself. And so we're thrilled you're with us and on this journey with us. Today we're gonna talk about the O in pivot and that is
Christine Goforth(00:13.291)
Yeah!
Samantha Bauer(00:36.494)
Creating opportunities. Christine, when I was kind of reflecting about, you how did I create opportunities in my life? Looking back, I was reminded when I was still doing my full-time, all-the-time career, I had a quote from Milton Berle on my whiteboard. And it said, if opportunity doesn't knock, build a door, right?
Christine Goforth(00:36.553)
opportunity.
Christine Goforth(01:06.258)
I love it. I love it. Yep.
Samantha Bauer(01:07.392)
And I loved it for a totally different reason. This was like probably two decades ago. And I was like, you know, we talked about, know, I have this, you know, self-efficacy, like, I could do anything. And, you know, I have a strong sense of self-efficacy. So I was like, yeah, I'm just going to go and I'm going to create doors and I'm just going to create opportunity for myself. And, but this means a little bit different to me now. And I see...
Christine Goforth(01:15.295)
Okay.
Christine Goforth(01:23.733)
Mm-hmm.
Samantha Bauer(01:36.898)
that building a door is really just creating the space to be open to what the universe slash God wants for me. Instead of me making everything happen, making, you know, it's having that faith. And the door really is the metaphor of, you know, an opening into your life and being in that space to attract.
Christine Goforth(01:49.801)
I love that.
Christine Goforth(02:04.643)
It is absolutely I in taking notes for this podcast and just doing some writing. I wrote not so eloquently as we find ourselves with more pockets of time. One of two things can happen. We can realize we have time to create new opportunities or if we're in alignment with the universe, you may see more opportunities opening up to you. So that is exactly like it's
Samantha Bauer(02:31.424)
Yes, I love that.
Christine Goforth(02:34.449)
Exactly what you're saying, you know, as, as our children grow up or as we enter a different phase of life, you might see pockets of time opening up. And in that time, it's like, wait a minute. I can, I can create a podcast. can, I can do the thing that you've been putting off or you didn't realize you wanted to do. Right. And so you have now this.
Samantha Bauer(02:36.002)
Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(02:46.326)
Yes.
Samantha Bauer(02:57.164)
Right, right.
Samantha Bauer(02:57.164)
Right.
Christine Goforth(03:02.367)
this time, which is such a gift. and you just to be very intentional with what you do with it. And, and again, opportunity begets opportunity. So if you are out there and you're saying yes to things, other opportunities are going to, to show themselves. And if it's meant for you, it's not going to pass you by. So
Samantha Bauer(03:09.762)
Right. Right.
Samantha Bauer(03:22.431)
Exactly.
Samantha Bauer(03:26.126)
Yes, I love that. Yeah, I love that you that's my favorite thing that you say. And it reminds me of a couple years ago, I decided like, you I'm just going to be a pickleball champion. You know, I'm just going to go out there and play pickleball. Right. That's there goes that whole self-efficacy thing. Right. I actually have to play pickleball to become a champion, but whatever, I'll figure it out. But
Christine Goforth(03:37.277)
Of course.
Christine Goforth(03:37.277)
I'm already a champion.
Christine Goforth(03:37.277)
Ha
Samantha Bauer(03:52.992)
What was so cool is I remember once I put that out into the universe, all of a sudden everywhere I turned there was someone was posting on Facebook like, a group of us are, like I started getting texts from friends like, hey, a group of us are gonna go play, right? The flyer at the gym, pickleball, right? was like pickleball, pickleball, pickleball. It was all over the place.
Christine Goforth(04:07.371)
crazy.
Christine Goforth(04:13.259)
You're like, okay, I get it. I'll go pick up a racket.
Samantha Bauer(04:16.684)
Right, but once you put it out there, again, the universe, God will serve those opportunities up for you. It wasn't necessarily me going and creating a pickleball tournament and creating opportunity around it. It was just simply being open.
Christine Goforth(04:32.584)
Right, right.
Christine Goforth(04:38.421)
I'm open to it.
Samantha Bauer(04:39.848)
exactly being open to the opportunities to come to me. And I think that that is so, it's such a powerful realization for someone like me who was so just, you know, gonna, I'm gonna work.
Christine Goforth(04:51.531)
Mm-hmm.
Samantha Bauer(04:57.094)
so hard in doing the things. And once I realized like that quote, the quote wasn't about me banging my head against the wall to build doors, to build doors of opportunity. It was simply to build a door in myself to allow, right? To be open and allow.
Samantha Bauer(04:57.094)
you know, opportunities, people. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And so, you know, we think in terms of opportunities being new jobs, you know, new opportunity to an opportunity to buy a house. mean, all these extrinsic.
Christine Goforth(05:22.635)
to flow. Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(05:40.128)
kinds of things and you know the opportunity to the opportunity that we have to do this work right the opportunity that we have to invite others on this journey with us to discover and explore and you know and just get better you know at the the practice so i think
Christine Goforth(05:47.561)
Right. yeah.
Christine Goforth(05:52.383)
Mm-hmm.
Samantha Bauer(06:03.156)
when we the easiest thing that you can do in finding new opportunities is just is again it goes back to gratitude. You got to be yeah you got to be grateful and because that attracts you know it gets you in right in the right vibration and it's attracting you know other things your way.
Christine Goforth(06:10.709)
Yeah, yeah, doesn't it always.
Samantha Bauer(06:27.052)
And then getting clear about what you're good at. What kinds of opportunities do you want?
Christine Goforth(06:30.953)
Right.
Christine Goforth(06:30.953)
Right. And I think that again, it's easy when we're in certain phases of our life to kind of those things get put on the back burner and you kind of forget who you are or maybe you've grown and you don't like the thing that you used to like, but you don't know that because you haven't tapped into that. And so it's like, do you want to, do you want to find value in contributing to your community? Do you want to volunteer? Do you want to, you know, it's, it's, again,
Samantha Bauer(06:51.639)
Right.
Christine Goforth(07:03.807)
Whatever those things are, say them, talk to them, talk about them out loud, talk to people, tell people what you wanna do. And I think communication is so key, openness is so key to allow those opportunities to flow freely to you.
Samantha Bauer(07:07.956)
Exactly. Yeah. Right.
Samantha Bauer(07:23.694)
And it's so fun when it happens.
Christine Goforth(07:26.985)
Right. yeah. Yeah. It's crazy. Yes, absolutely.
Samantha Bauer(07:30.734)
Because it's a thing. We're here to tell you. It's definitely a thing. And it never ceases to amaze me when I want the thing, I open myself up to the thing, and literally I get a phone call from a colleague or a friend saying, hey Sam, I'm thinking about doing this, this, do want to collaborate? And it's like, and I just sit in it and I just say, thank you, right? Again, I'm so grateful.
Christine Goforth(07:59.156)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(08:00.688)
grateful because the universe God will deliver up as long as you are open to it. And you've got to be in a high frequency mode, right? You got to get all high vibie to allow this stuff to work and then have faith. Have faith that those opportunities will show up.
Christine Goforth(08:18.859)
Well then I-
Christine Goforth(08:18.859)
100 % all of that. And I also want people to know that it might not show up how you think it's going to show up. And it might not show itself in the way that again, have faith, right? So it's like, if, you're wanting this, this thing to happen or a physical thing or an opportunity or whatever it is, it's like,
Samantha Bauer(08:31.746)
Right. Good point.
Christine Goforth(08:52.235)
You have to believe it takes time. There's no timeline with the universe, right? The universe will, will do it for you or give it to you or put it in your path when it knows that you're ready. Your timeline isn't necessarily the universe's timeline. And so again, just have the faith and know that if, if I say I want more opportunities to, to give back in regards to sharing this work that we're doing.
Samantha Bauer(08:57.389)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(09:06.998)
Right. Right.
Samantha Bauer(09:21.07)
Sure.
Christine Goforth(09:22.055)
and
Christine Goforth(09:22.055)
excuse me, and, and you know, an opportunity comes along and it's not quite right. That's not my place to go. well, I guess it's just not going to happen then. Right. Okay. So no, that wasn't the opportunity, but what did I learn from it? And now I have faith that something better will come along.
Samantha Bauer(09:37.976)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(09:46.622)
Exactly. And sometimes things that do come along, like you said, it's you're like, Whoa, I didn't even I didn't see that one coming. You know, it's it's like.
Christine Goforth(09:55.509)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(09:57.706)
I didn't even, because you're not really, you're not really in charge. Really? I mean, you're not in charge of forcing things, right? Forcing, you know, and I know that Gabby Berenstein talks a lot about this, you know, in manifesting, right? You can, become, you know, you could become like a manic manifester, right? And then, and that's when you're trying to force things to happen and you gotta chill, right? You gotta, you just gotta chill and you gotta sit back again
Christine Goforth(10:02.985)
No. No.
Christine Goforth(10:17.203)
Right? Right.
Christine Goforth(10:23.338)
Yes.
Samantha Bauer(10:27.44)
and have faith that it's going to show up for you. But it may not show up the way you think it should show up, to your point. And it looks totally different. It looks totally different than in your head.
Christine Goforth(10:35.796)
Right, right.
Christine Goforth(10:40.607)
And I think that once, think future us is usually able to look back and reflect and say, that's why this has happened. Because a lot of times it's that or something better, right? This or something better. This or something better.
Samantha Bauer(10:50.126)
Totally.
Samantha Bauer(10:54.984)
Yes, yes, this or something better. Yeah, right, because we think we know exactly what we want and we see it, which is good, it's all part of the process, but it might be just completely, it looks totally different than what we thought we wanted.
Christine Goforth(11:06.677)
Right.
Christine Goforth(11:15.273)
Right, right. And I think that being really, and I don't know that I'm even here on this journey, but like being so in tune with yourself that you're able to kind of see the nuances as to what's gonna work and what's in alignment with you and what's not. And I think that's just a, I think that's a skill that you build over time in doing this kind of work.
Samantha Bauer(11:34.828)
Yes. Yeah, no, totally.
Samantha Bauer(11:43.96)
Right.
Christine Goforth(11:44.223)
I don't know that there's a final destination to it. I think you just kind of are always learning and growing and figuring things out.
Samantha Bauer(11:50.796)
Right. And that's the fun thing too, is right, it's the evolution within this work too. And it's fun for me to look back and go, my gosh, was so unnecessarily intense, for like no reason.
Christine Goforth(11:57.867)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(12:09.922)
Like if I had just like chilled out and just accepted that I actually am not in charge of the whole world, you know, and that I simply just have to show up with joy and gratitude and accept and attract the things that are meant for me.
Christine Goforth(12:17.854)
Right.
Christine Goforth(12:28.811)
But if you hadn't, if you hadn't been that past version of yourself, you wouldn't be this version of yourself. You getting you to where you are now, just like us doing this is getting us to where we will be and we'll reflect back on this and you know, and I, and I just think this is this whole pivot method is so funny to me.
Samantha Bauer(12:37.44)
Agreed. It was all part of the journey. It was all part.
Samantha Bauer(12:48.392)
Exactly. It's all just part, it's all part of the plan.
Christine Goforth(12:57.201)
in regards I think about you guys this whole thing started at a Dave Matthews band cover show at a winery you guys don't aren't huge Dave Matthews band fans my husband and I are like if we hadn't said hey do you guys want to go do this thing like okay if you guys hadn't said yes to that like
Samantha Bauer(13:08.739)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(13:08.739)
No. No.
Samantha Bauer(13:22.518)
Right. Totally.
Christine Goforth(13:22.953)
look at where it has led us and not saying that we wouldn't have come up with idea. Maybe we would, maybe we wouldn't have, but saying yes to going out and having a good time and having conversations and communicating. And then we come up with ideas and we do the thing. Like this is so cool to me because it is literally the pivot method in real time. You know, like, anyway.
Samantha Bauer(13:29.912)
Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(13:40.598)
Yeah, yeah.
Samantha Bauer(13:46.89)
Yeah, no, I, yeah. And, you know, and when we're, you're looking at, you know, creating opportunities for yourself. And we talked a little bit about this already is that,
Samantha Bauer(13:46.89)
Really pay attention to the intrinsic motivation again, right? It's not you're not doing it for fame and fortune You're not seeking out opportunity. Yeah, I mean some people are you know, but but but in in the work that we're talking about the Opportunities to live the life that you're always you were always meant to live Or the life that you're meant to live right now and that's the whole point of the pivot method is This is your hashtag
Christine Goforth(14:03.039)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(14:11.861)
Sure.
Christine Goforth(14:24.245)
Right?
Samantha Bauer(14:29.076)
pivot, this is your time to pivot and here is the opportunity to seek, but again it needs to come from that true intrinsic motivation. You're not looking for external validation in these opportunities. And then the other thing too, Christine, we've talked about is you got to be intentional.
Christine Goforth(14:44.469)
Right, right.
Samantha Bauer(14:52.27)
with this too. And so that's kind of that weird sort of balance between, you know, making something happen versus just being intentional with being open to receive, right?
Christine Goforth(14:54.677)
Yes.
Christine Goforth(15:07.081)
Right. think one is organic and one is, I was going to say type A, but I don't want to offend anybody. One is, it's not an offense. mean, listen, type A people get shit done. Okay. You, this is why the podcast is going. I am not type A. I've never been type A.
Samantha Bauer(15:16.398)
No, hey, you're talking to a recovering type A-er. I'm telling you, if you want something done, yeah, you give it to me for sure.
Christine Goforth(15:35.499)
but I think going back to what you're saying is, is it has to be organic. And that doesn't mean that you don't try. It doesn't mean that you become complacent. It means that you look inward, you open yourself up, you realize that any opportunity that, that you want is within your reach. You speak out loud, you write it down, you.
Samantha Bauer(15:36.046)
you
Samantha Bauer(15:48.556)
Right. Right.
Christine Goforth(16:04.851)
you run that tape of the thing that you are trying to achieve and the universe will respond to that. But it has to be authentic and it has to be organic. Yeah, so.
Samantha Bauer(16:14.318)
Absolutely.
Samantha Bauer(16:19.682)
Right, right, what's the saying is, if you want something bad enough, the universe will conspire to deliver it, right? I mean, that's just, that's one of the most foundational concepts of the law of attraction that if you just, if you want it bad enough, and you're intentional enough, and also it's about,
Christine Goforth(16:27.571)
Right? Right.
Christine Goforth(16:27.571)
I love that.
Samantha Bauer(16:44.152)
Pay attention to the choices that you've made too in your life. like you said, mean, just saying yes to stuff.
Samantha Bauer(16:44.152)
begets other opportunities. then it's kind of fun to see, you know, the winding road, you know, it's never really a short, you know, straight path. It never is. And it's just kind of fun to think like, okay, so I made this choice exactly to your point. We chose to go to a summer concert and hang out at a winery and the vibes were up and everyone was feeling good. And we were just in the perfect spot.
Christine Goforth(16:55.53)
Right, yeah.
Christine Goforth(17:04.745)
No. Never is.
Samantha Bauer(17:23.408)
space to have this conversation to create the podcast, the birth of the podcast. But it's fun to really look at the choices that you make along the way that gets you eventually. And again, we could sit here and think that we can map the whole thing out and we can't.
Christine Goforth(17:25.333)
Yeah. Yeah.
Christine Goforth(17:44.779)
No, no, Right? You plan and God laughs or whatever you want to say. You plan the universe laughs. It's
Samantha Bauer(17:49.293)
Right.
Christine Goforth(17:54.843)
You just have to believe you can. And again, it might not show up how you think it should, but there is there's a method to the universe's madness, if you will.
Samantha Bauer(18:05.678)
right.
Samantha Bauer(18:10.4)
Yeah, absolutely. again, coming back to how we started, the Milton Berle quote, right? If opportunity does not knock, build a door. And again, that means so much different to me two decades later that it's not like I gotta go out there and I gotta fight and I gotta work hard and bang my head against the wall and create opportunity. No, it's not that at all.
Christine Goforth(18:28.65)
Right?
Samantha Bauer(18:38.254)
It's not the doing of building that door. It is the being the door.
Christine Goforth(18:48.317)
and allowing opportunity to come through, right? 100%.
Samantha Bauer(18:50.124)
Right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because that door, that door is you being open to new opportunity to come your way. And, you know, and, and, there's things that you can do clearly, right? You got, you got it. You got to, you got to be high vibe-y. You got to, you got to, you know, be in the right way. Yes.
Christine Goforth(19:00.821)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(19:07.881)
Right. You have to do your part, right? Like the universe isn't handing you up things that you want on a silver platter. Like that's not how it's working. No.
Samantha Bauer(19:14.734)
Right, can't sit in the corner, suck on a pickle, and be pissed at the entire world.
Christine Goforth(19:20.457)
Right, No.
Samantha Bauer(19:20.472)
Cause that is not going to get you anywhere. So, anyhow, mean, talk about opportunity. mean, again, it's just, this is such a fun opportunity to not only experience this with you, Christine, and, you know, continue to learn together, but to share it with others. And, you know, we're having the conversations, you know, with our listeners and, you know, it's fun to listen to, my gosh, you know, I loved it when you said this or that made
Christine Goforth(19:36.222)
Yes.
Christine Goforth(19:49.801)
Yes. Yep. Yep. Or like, man, I really needed to listen to that. I was having XYZ issue and that really reminded me that, you know, I can, right. Yep. Exactly.
Samantha Bauer(19:50.475)
total sense to me, you know?
Samantha Bauer(20:00.992)
It just, yeah, came at the right time. Yeah. So anyhow, well, our opportunity to talk about opportunity is now up and our time just completely flies by. So love it. Love it. So next time we are going to talk about the T in pivot and that is test your limits. So until then, thank you so much for joining us. This is Sisters in Law of Attraction. I'm Sam and we'll see you next time. Bye.
Christine Goforth(20:10.217)
It's coming to a close. Always.
Christine Goforth(20:19.531)
So excited.
Christine Goforth(20:25.991)
And I'm Christine.
