Highlights from this episode
It is so easy to get bogged down by stuff that goes wrong. That's why you journal. That's why it's called a practice, because it's a muscle you have to work out every day.
When you're in a state of gratitude, you can't be fearful. Those two don't exist together.
You can always find things to be grateful for, whether it's the crisp cool air outside or a massive check you didn't expect. You can always find it as long as you're looking for it. But you have to look for it.
I'm not going to worship the problem. I'm going to worship the solution. I'm going to have faith that in the face of this challenge, there is an answer.

Welcome back everybody to Sisters-in-Law of Attraction Podcast. I'm Sam.
Christine Goforth(00:03.726)
And I'm Christine.
Samantha Bauer(00:07.763)
And we're so thrilled you came back and joined us today. We want to dig a little bit deeper and get a little more specific on tools and rituals, practices that you can use to get in high vibration and get your mindset right so that you can allow for the universe to deliver what you are meant to receive and live a great life. But Christine, I wanted to start with
Samantha Bauer(00:07.763)
my little trip to New York City.
Christine Goforth(00:40.391)
I can't wait to hear all about it!
Samantha Bauer(00:42.919)
So this trip, went with a couple of actually girlfriends. One is a former neighbor. And I feel like I manifested this trip probably 15 years ago. So at the time, she lived across the street and she had her friend over and they were talking about, you know, seeing these broadway shows and every fall they would go to New York City. And I remember saying, my gosh, I totally want to do that one day.
Samantha Bauer(00:42.919)
And so a couple months ago, that one day came and my friend said to me, she goes, well, what do you think? We're going. Do you want to join? I said, yes, of course. So we had a blast. It was so much fun. And what's super interesting is that these three ladies are all 73 years old. I'm 20 years their junior. And they're just like, my god, Sam, why do you want to hang out with us? I said, because you're fun.
Christine Goforth(01:34.398)
I said you're funny. Fun and I can learn from you. Exactly.
Samantha Bauer(01:41.495)
Exactly. so, and, and I just, we, we had a blast and they, you know, we took the subway everywhere. Every night we went to a Broadway show. We, you know, took the subway into the Bronx to J and key or Yankee stadium. And, but I gotta tell you coming out of Yankee stadium after the game and trying to get into that, that subway, was, was, was unreal, but I actually had to grab one of the ladies off of the, the, one of the trains cause she got on the wrong damn train.
Christine Goforth(01:51.096)
So fun.
Christine Goforth(02:07.202)
no!
Samantha Bauer(02:10.206)
But you know, and when I was getting ready to go, my mom, you know, says to me, well, you know, are you looking forward to your trip? And I said, no, mom, I'm dreading it. She goes, well, you know, if I were you, I'd be a little scared. Yes. And so, you know, just the whole perception of, you know, New York City being unsafe and in all of this. And it's like, no, mom, I am not going to live my life, you know.
Christine Goforth(02:25.762)
scared of what?
Samantha Bauer(02:38.834)
fearful of what might happen because guess what bad things happen everywhere and I gotta tell you we just York City was just so much fun. They do such a great job with you know, the green space and we walked the Highline and you know, can totally get why people, you know people live here or live there other And then we you know, we did a food tour in Greenwich Village We walked by Bob Dylan's, know little apartment and the apartment that Taylor Swift
Christine Goforth(02:43.628)
all the time.
Christine Goforth(02:53.026)
Mm.
Christine Goforth(03:01.966)
Thank
Samantha Bauer(03:09.118)
She rented it and it was on Cornelia Street and that's where she wrote Cornelia Street. anyhow, had a blast. that's just again, Christine, just one more example of being clear about what you want, putting it out there and manifesting it and then the universe delivers. Right, but that was 15 years.
Christine Goforth(03:14.83)
So.
Christine Goforth(03:23.33)
be about what you Yeah.
Christine Goforth(03:33.268)
and being patient with, right? Being patient waiting for the numbers to deliver.
Samantha Bauer(03:39.535)
Yeah, exactly. And you know, mean, how easy it would have been for me to say, no, you know, don't need to spend that money right now. Or, you know, I've got 50 million things to do here, you know, at the house. And who am I? Who am I to jump on a plane and fly, you know, coast to coast and go and enjoy an entire week of Broadway shows? And you know, who am I? And but I but you know, I clearly I deserved it and had a fabulous time. And so anyhow, I'm so
Christine Goforth(03:46.616)
Sure.
Christine Goforth(04:01.526)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(04:07.624)
You manifested it. If it wasn't meant for you, it wouldn't have come to you.
Samantha Bauer(04:09.566)
Exactly, exactly. And I had such a, again, a great feeling connected to that trip, right? I visualized it, I saw it, and I thought, you know what? This is fun, I want to do that. So anyhow, so I think what we should do is, you know, everyone says, and you have mentioned before, Christine, that you recognized my mindset.
Christine Goforth(04:15.682)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(04:26.39)
Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(04:39.644)
and you wanted it, you just didn't know how to get it.
Christine Goforth(04:42.38)
Right. Yeah, that is, that is accurate. That's in it's, I think it's something that I have kind of dabbled in and out of and known that this is the mindset that I wanted to get to, but for so long felt like it was unattainable. I just wasn't that person. wasn't.
Christine Goforth(04:42.38)
I didn't have the ability or the tools to get there. I just was different. It wasn't gonna work for me or whatever the story I told myself was, right?
Samantha Bauer(05:03.646)
Right, right. Well, and you know, so many people ask me too, you know, what do you do? Right? And I think it's clearly we're all on our own journey and our own path. And so what works for me doesn't necessarily won't necessarily work for you or, you know, for our listeners, because we're all in different.
Samantha Bauer(05:03.646)
seasons of our life, because what I do now to get into the right mindset every day, there's no way I could have done that when I was raising kids. The mornings are nuts. Now, I say that, yeah, there's something I could have done. I could have gotten up 45 minutes earlier. But I think that the biggest thing that shifted for me was this gratitude, what I call the gratitude journal.
Christine Goforth(05:42.028)
Right. absolutely.
Christine Goforth(06:00.482)
Mm-hmm.
Samantha Bauer(06:01.778)
You know, we've heard over and over again, know, showing gratitude and just writing down the things that you're grateful for really can shift because when you're in a state of gratitude, you can't be fearful. And it just, it sort of opens you up. this is kind of how my day starts. So we're gonna start there and then we'll jump into some of your rituals because you're in the throes of raising two darling teenage girls. So you're...
Christine Goforth(06:14.83)
you can't do it yourself. Exactly. And starts with all these glass. This is kind of how it comes. I'm to start there. You're going to do it yourself. Or is it Yes. When I hear about your amazing, peaceful mornings, I say, oh, that sounds lovely. I'll get there one day. You're going to know how it works.
Samantha Bauer(06:34.424)
And you will, you're going to manifest it. You totally are. So I've shared before, that I obviously have a relationship with God. I'm a practicing Catholic. And so in the morning when I wake up, it's a quick little prayer. Dear God, thank you so much for this day. I'm so blessed. And it helped show me the way today. And so then I come out.
Christine Goforth(06:39.502)
I'm
Christine Goforth(06:51.566)
you
Christine Goforth(06:51.566)
It helps show.
Samantha Bauer(06:58.734)
And I sit in my morning chair. I've created a space in my living room where it's a comfy little chairs, my little area. And I light my candle, turn on my music and I get out my my gratitude journal and literally write 10. I am grateful for us. And it could be, you know, little things, big things, you know, like, for example, this morning it was I am grateful for the cool morning air and just, you know, experiencing just and just really, you know, and then and then big things. Today, I am.
Samantha Bauer(06:58.734)
I am grateful for helpful people. I want to just put that into the universe because that is the experience that I want to have today. So this all works because my husband does boot camp in the morning at 6 AM. And he's a talker man in the morning. I don't want to talk. So I have this whole ritual. I have this whole ritual.
Christine Goforth(07:30.67)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(07:39.95)
It's all art.
Christine Goforth(07:48.334)
You
Christine Goforth(07:51.886)
What silence! We want to be left alone!
Samantha Bauer(07:57.087)
that I can do. And then by the time he gets back at 7 AM, OK, I'm ready to talk. And so we can talk about all the things, all the things of life that we need to talk about. The other thing, too, what I've also added to the ritual is I don't immediately make my cup of coffee. I drink my water, and I just want to be fully present.
Christine Goforth(08:08.546)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(08:19.148)
feeling.
Samantha Bauer(08:24.444)
And then after I do my gratitude journal, then I brew my first cup of coffee and I go stand outside. And this is where I call, this is kind of what you could call grounding. I know my son really gets into the barefoot on the grass and really grounding. But we have this big, beautiful tree in the backyard and it's kind of a weeping willow, just really just kind of peaceful and effortless. And I call it the tree of wisdom.
Samantha Bauer(08:24.444)
And so I go out there with my cup of coffee, and I'm just mindful in that moment to take that first sip and look at the tree of wisdom. just literally the mantra in my head is, thank you. Thank you. Right? That's it. So anyhow, so that's how I start my day and gets me in the right lane. But I know that your ritual perhaps comes at the end of the day.
Christine Goforth(09:15.136)
Yeah, well, okay, so I will say that mine, they're not wrapped up in pretty like yours. I will say the one I consistently every single day, you will find me in a bath by 5 p.m. That is my time to rinse the day away, wash the day away, have my decompression time, not be available to anybody.
Samantha Bauer(09:32.624)
Love it. Love it.
Christine Goforth(09:44.111)
for anything, it's just my time to listen to a podcast or read a book or put on spa music or just have silence. And going back to being grateful for all things small and big, the weather here has turned a bit. And so instead of being 105 at five o'clock, it is now, I don't know, like 80, 78, and it's beautiful. And I can open my window.
Samantha Bauer(10:05.726)
I'm don't know, 78? it's beautiful, like, so I have my mom that's not working.
Christine Goforth(10:12.792)
So I have my hot bath and a breeze and it's the best thing ever. Yeah, no, is, it's truly, it's gotten to the point where my husband takes over any like evening transportations because it's, everybody knows mom's in the bath at that time, dad goes and does the rest. yeah, so that works out very well. Along with that, like you said, the journaling, the...
Samantha Bauer(10:16.798)
Love it. Yeah, it is, it's truly, it's under the point where my husband takes over and he like, even transportation because it's the day everything ends.
Samantha Bauer(10:16.798)
Right?
Christine Goforth(10:40.824)
gratitude, just constantly being in a state of gratitude and writing those down. And even if, even if they're repetitive, even if sometimes you are in a rut and you can't think of, actually, I take that back. I think you can always think of things to be grateful for. Here I am thinking like, no, that feels living small. No.
Samantha Bauer(10:47.228)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(11:08.31)
You can absolutely always find things to be grateful for. Whether it's, like you said, the crisp cool air outside or a massive check that you didn't expect or whatever it is. You can always always find it as long as we're looking for it. But you have to look for it. You have to look for the joy. You have to look for the gratitude.
Samantha Bauer(11:20.329)
Right. Yeah. Well, and that's where the discipline comes in, And it's, you know, it's just like with anything. When you train your body for a run or, you know, you're studying for a test, you know, you're training your brain to do something different, right?
Christine Goforth(11:30.946)
Right.
Christine Goforth(11:43.15)
creating new neural pathways, new ways of thinking, new, yeah, you nailed it.
Samantha Bauer(11:49.757)
Exactly. And I think one of my favorite things that you you've said on a previous podcast is, know what? I'm just going to decide to not worship the problem. Right. I just I that is I just thought it was absolutely brilliant. And so turn it upside down. I'm going to worship the solution. I'm going to have faith that there's, you know, there's in the face of this challenge.
Christine Goforth(11:59.193)
Yeah.
Christine Goforth(12:05.646)
So.
Christine Goforth(12:10.882)
Yep.
Samantha Bauer(12:16.228)
I'm going to have faith that there is an answer and there's a solution. I'm going to worship that. I'm not going to, you know, circle the drain around this, you know, death, and destruction, you know, kind of thing.
Christine Goforth(12:27.214)
That by the way may or may not come to fruition. The thing you're worried about may not even happen. So why not focus on the gratitude? And I'm not saying toxic positivity, like, everything is so good and the world is perfect and blah, blah. No, not that. It's about knowing that life is going to happen, things are going to happen, but that you have the tools and
Samantha Bauer(12:31.781)
Exactly.
Samantha Bauer(12:31.781)
Right. Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(12:45.65)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(12:54.494)
the tools and almost the foundation that the back one, but things are going well. So how do you make it like you're in the back?
Christine Goforth(12:56.428)
almost a foundation to lean back on when things aren't going well. so, so having things like your daily baths that are grounding or your daily morning rituals that you do see them, it's, those are foundationally grounding. Like when the world is crazy, when life is crazy, when you're busy and running around, okay, at least you have those things that...
Samantha Bauer(13:09.288)
Right. Right.
Christine Goforth(13:23.606)
are kind of cornerstones that you can go back to. Okay, I have my gratitude list. I have my journaling. I have my dog at home, right? Who I just enjoy petting, right? Just pet an animal. Rinse the day away in the shower. I tell my kids that all the time after a long day at school. Go rinse the day away. Rinse the problems. Let them go down the drain and visualize that, right? Like anything with water is just...
Samantha Bauer(13:30.078)
Yes.
Samantha Bauer(13:41.32)
Yep.
Samantha Bauer(13:45.811)
Love it. Yeah. Yes. No. Yeah. Water is so right. The energy and water and it's so calming. And I swear I was a sailor in another life because I when I get on a boat anytime like I do in my mind, I'm actually going to like I actually I'm going to put this out there right now. I'm going to sail a boat. Like I'm going to learn how to actually sail a boat. So
Christine Goforth(13:57.163)
Mm-hmm.
Christine Goforth(14:09.76)
You, yeah. Yes. You are going to sail a boat. It's going to be amazing. I'll be right there with you.
Samantha Bauer(14:12.122)
There I just put that out there Yes But no, think I think for me the way I look at it at it Christine is it's a toolkit, right? you've got lots of little tools in in your toolkit and You know, like I told my kids long ago You know your faith was a gift that you were given and that's just one of many tools, right?
Christine Goforth(14:24.685)
Yes.
Samantha Bauer(14:38.61)
faith in the Lord, faith in something larger than you, the universe or whatever faith that is all actually going to work out. And then, you know, these tools that we're talking about are so simple, but yet so hard when you're faced with, you know, a busy life and, you know, horrible news and, and, and, and you're being pulled in all kinds of different directions. And it's almost you almost being
Christine Goforth(14:53.87)
But yet, so.
Samantha Bauer(15:08.328)
feel silly in a way to sit down with your gratitude journal. And I am grateful for it. It's like, seriously? The world is literally falling down around you, and you're grateful for the cold morning air? Like, give me a break. But it's so, so important. The other thing I do, too, is a daily walk to kind of connect with nature. And this is kind of what I consider my meditation time.
Christine Goforth(15:08.8)
in a way to...
Christine Goforth(15:22.858)
No.
Christine Goforth(15:30.126)
Thank
Christine Goforth(15:30.126)
Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(15:37.373)
I'm very careful to not put things in my ear like music. There's time I like to listen to podcasts, of course, but having that quiet time and really paying attention. You're walking and you're seeing the beautiful sky and you're looking at the trees. And again, there's just something very cleansing.
Christine Goforth(15:51.446)
Mm-hmm.
Christine Goforth(16:02.434)
Yes.
Samantha Bauer(16:02.63)
to have that sort of reconnection time with nature. And that's where I get some really great thoughts.
Christine Goforth(16:10.398)
absolutely. There are, I listened to Mel Robbins podcast at one point and she had a, excuse me, a walking expert on, which sounds extraordinarily silly, right? But like it was, it was absolutely fascinating because he went through and discussed all of the different types of walks and, and pick what your intention is. What kind of a walk do you want to do? Do you want?
Samantha Bauer(16:17.79)
Yep.
Samantha Bauer(16:33.073)
and pick what your intention is, what kind of a walk do you want to do? Do you want to do what you're pretty good at, do you want to meditate, do you want to do this as a workout, do you want to do lots of different kinds of walks? And what you listen to or don't listen to changes depending on the type of walk. How fast do you go, where you're looking, where your vision is, where your eyes are looking, all of it is.
Christine Goforth(16:38.134)
to get your creative juices going? Do you want to meditate? Do you want to use it as a workout? Do you want to lots of different kinds of walks and what you listen to or don't listen to changes depending on the type of walk, how fast you go, where you're looking, where your vision line is, your eye line. Like all of it has a purpose. And I thought that was so fascinating.
Samantha Bauer(17:03.405)
All of this has a purpose. And I hope that's all fascinating. Go on, sorry. Yeah, no. And years ago, read a book, we'll put this on resources on the website. It's called Rest. And in that, it really talked about some of the greatest thinkers, the greatest, most talented writers of our time.
Christine Goforth(17:07.17)
Go on, sorry.
Christine Goforth(17:18.094)
Thank
Samantha Bauer(17:28.594)
They understood the importance of rest. So really and truly their most productive time, right, is in those early morning hours where you can, when you're your clearest. And then you take a break and you literally go for a walk and you let, you let, you rest that, you know, that front part of your brain and let the back part of your brain process and take care of the problems and the issues or the challenges or whatever.
Christine Goforth(17:30.998)
Mm-hmm.
Samantha Bauer(17:57.661)
And that's why sleep is so, so important, because you turn off your brain and you allow the other parts of your brain to attend to whatever the challenge is or the issue or that sort of thing. So anyhow, I wanted to dovetail a little bit on that, Christine, because we talk about meditation. And here's the other thing about meditation. It's not just quieting your mind and trying to turn it off.
Christine Goforth(18:26.508)
No, I think that's the beauty of meditation is that people can meditate in so many different ways that works for them. Whether it's a walking meditation, whether it's a sitting meditation, whether it's standing in the shower and letting the water just hit your back or hit your face. There are lots of ways to meditate and it doesn't have to be.
Samantha Bauer(18:35.516)
Right.
Samantha Bauer(18:45.694)
There are lots of ways that it's taken stuff that have to be, you know, it's got to be wrapped up in a curve. Right.
Christine Goforth(18:49.878)
You know, you have to be sitting cross-legged for a minimum of five minutes and no talking and close your eyes.
Samantha Bauer(18:55.358)
Yeah So I have to tell this quick quick story. So are you interested or interested? You're probably interested, but are you aware of float spa spas or you float? Okay, let's say zero Okay Right, so my husband and I go this is years ago and you know for those of you who don't know what a float spa is basically you get into a pod
Christine Goforth(19:05.185)
yes. Yeah, I've never done it. That would be cool if anybody wants to sponsor us.
Christine Goforth(19:14.894)
Thank you.
Samantha Bauer(19:19.462)
and it's salt water, so you're very buoyant, and it's supposed to be zero gravity, it's supposed to be, get all the, it gets dark, and you can choose music, the whole thing, and it's amazing how heavy your head is. When your body is so buoyant, your head really is the heaviest darn thing on your body.
Samantha Bauer(19:43.335)
And your head's like, you know, it's, it's going under water or whatever, but they have these little float floaty things or whatever. But I got to tell you, and you're allegedly supposed to, you know, go naked. Cause you're supposed to like totally, you know, get, have no like sensory deprivation on every level. I could not go there because I, I needed to be ready in a moment's notice because what if the building like caught on fire? Right. And so this is what's going through my brain. No, I put a bathing suit on.
Christine Goforth(19:58.223)
Okay. Okay.
Christine Goforth(20:08.204)
You are going out naked.
Samantha Bauer(20:13.206)
So I am in this float spa and of course here's what's going on in my head. I'm like my god I'm claustrophobic I can't close it's like an egg and you can't like I could not close the whole thing because I started hyperventilating so this is what this is this is me a total nightmare in this float float spa and I'm thinking about my gosh like there's gonna be a fire and I've got to run out so I gotta be ready at a moment's notice and then I started
Christine Goforth(20:30.86)
This is not your type of meditation.
Samantha Bauer(20:36.574)
And then I think about, my God, is this water dirty? The whole thing, it's so dumb. So we get out and my husband is so, it's the most peaceful I have ever seen him. He goes, my God, Sam, it was amazing. He goes, I feel like I just slept for a week. And I'm like, well, I suck. I completely failed the float.
Christine Goforth(21:02.702)
you
Samantha Bauer(21:04.538)
spa and whatever. anyhow, that's another thing I'm going to try again. I'm going to try and really, really give into the process and quiet the mind. But here's the deal. You know, when you meditate and you try to just attend to your thoughts, it's okay. Don't, don't fight them, you know, and, and just, and just, just kind of lean into it. But, anyhow, I just, I, I am so grateful that we have this opportunity to talk, together.
Samantha Bauer(21:04.538)
and with a community of people on how we can continue to get in that lane of joy and gratitude, so we can start accepting the things that are meant for us.
Christine Goforth(21:40.398)
I'm sorry.
Christine Goforth(21:45.227)
I love that. love that. And I will say one other thing. Just remember every day, lots of reminders to yourself to unclench your draw, drop your shoulders and put a smile on your face.
Samantha Bauer(21:58.814)
Yeah, that's it. That's it. No, mean, obviously with the whole physicality, right? If you focus even just on the physical, the mind, the mind, you know, clearly will follow.
Christine Goforth(22:05.216)
Yeah, we'll follow. I mean, so many times I catch myself like, teeth clenched, chocolate, like, okay, relax. It's gonna be okay.
Samantha Bauer(22:10.909)
Yeah.
Samantha Bauer(22:10.909)
Yeah. Yeah, relax. It's going to be so OK. Well, as always, our time just flies so, fast. I'm. I know. But we're excited for the next time. And thank you again for joining us. We're thrilled you're with us on this journey. And this is Sisters-in-Law of Attraction. I'm Sam. And we'll see you next time. Bye.
Christine Goforth(22:17.986)
Yeah. It goes way too fast.
Christine Goforth(22:33.358)
And I'm Christine. Bye.
